My Watch and Water

If your watch says it’s water resistant up to 30 meters, that means you can dive down to 30 meters with it , right? Nope, you will destroy your watch that way. Although the dial or back of the case may give you a number, that number probably doesn’t refer to in-use scenarios — it is a reflection of a standardized water resistance classification. When in doubt, always lean towards the dry side.

Water Resistant
If your watch doesn’t say it is water resistant, treat it as if it is a piece of paper. Water will do horrible things to it. If it does mention a vague sort of water resistance, still avoid getting it wet. A splash will be okay, but it is definitely not a good idea to go for a dip or shower with it on — especially since a hot shower’s steam will do even more horrible things to your watch.

Water Resistant 30 Meters / 3 ATM / 3 Bar
If your watch indicates that it is water resistant up to 30 meters, it actually means that it is just splash resistant. It does NOT mean that the watch will be fine if you bring it 30 meters below sea level. While it is certainly possible that your watch could survive an extremely brief trip under very careful conditions in extremely still water, you probably should not consider rolling the dice.

Water Resistant 50 Meters / 5 ATM / 5 Bar
If you’re watch indicates it is 50 meters water resistant, it means you can swim with it. However, you should keep its water exposure to a minimum. And by no means whatsoever, should you dive with it. 50 meters of depth will not do it any favours. Only push the buttons with your wrist above water.

Water Resistant 100 Meters / 10 ATM / 10 Bar
This is snorkeling territory. This watch has no problem living in the water for a while, and will even be fine on an extended snorkeling trip. Diving, however, should still be out of the question. Also remember to only push the buttons with your wrist above water.

Water Resistant 200 Meters / 200 ATM / 20 Bar
Though it might seem like it, this actually still is not dive watch territory. While 200 meters seems like a ton of leeway to scuba dive with, you should probably not even go down 10 meters. But by all means, do some laps in the pool with it on. But only push the buttons with your wrist above water.

Water Resistant 300 Meters / 300 ATM / 30 Bar
This is the dive watch territory, even though it hasn’t been certified to the ISO 6425 standard. You may dive with it.

Diver’s Watch or ISO 6425 Certified
If your watch has “ISO 6425” or “Divers” and then a depth number written on the dial or case, you have a watch designed for diving and certified up to a standard — unlike watches without ISO markings. This ISO standard means that the watch is guaranteed by the manufacturer to handle depths of at least 100 meters (if no number is given). Furthermore, all watches that measure up to this standard have significant shock, magnetic, and salt water tolerance. The ISO 6425 standard also provides an indication that the movement is running in total darkness. If you are going to go dive deep, go with one of these.

And remember, if your watch is vintage or you haven’t checked your seals in a few years, all bets are off until you get your watch checked.

Tips for Choosing the Perfect Mens Wedding Ring

After picking a beautiful engagement ring and you and the love of your life are proceeding with wedding plans, the mens wedding ring is among the most essential items in the midst of all the preparations and excitement.

The  mens wedding ring will be worn every day as it symbolizes your love and the commitment that you have made to your wife. Considering how significant the ring is, it is important to give this particular form of wedding jewellery the attention it deserves.

Tastes and Preferences

It is essential to think about what appeals to the groom. Although there are several designs and materials that you can choose from, the person who will be wearing the ring for the rest of their lives has to be comfortable with the choice.

Time

Another critical factor is timeliness. It may be surprising to discover that wedding rings are usually shipped or bought at short notice. Sometimes the groom’s wedding ring is forgotten as other pre-wedding issues can become overwhelming. Getting this task done early will give you fewer things to worry about before the special day finally arrives.

Matching Rings

It is not common for bride and groom’s wedding rings to match these days. This is because jewellery is regarded as a personal way for individuals to express their styles. Individuality is encouraged to ensure that everyone actually loves the ring that they will be wearing for the rest of their lives. As the long as the rings create aesthetic harmony they do not have to be an exact match.

Durability

Some metals are more durable than others. For grooms whose job involves manual work, a hassle-free, low maintenance and durable precious metal is the best choice. Options such as titanium are ideal due to their affordability and light weight.

Comfort

One of the ways to ensure that the wedding ring is comfortable enough for daily wear is to make sure the jeweller considers the fit and design of the ring. Inner shapes are typically adjustable to conform to the fingers of different individuals.

Engraving

The decision to engrave the mens wedding ring ultimately depends on the individual. It ca be considered as a nice way to express personal sentiments that will be a permanent aspect of the wedding ring.

Shopping Online

An exchange or returns policy is reassuring in case the style or size of the ring does not meet your expectations. Verified customer reviews are also helpful as well as secure web pages.

Budget

Setting realistic budget may not be romantic but it is crucial for your peace of mind. Before you begin shopping around for a mens wedding ring, you need to determine how much you are willing to spend. This will make the process much easier and gets rid of the frustration that is associated with liking a ring that is beyond your budget.

Professional Sizing

While the groom may think he knows his exact ring, professional sizing is essential. This is an important step that confirms your ring size and prevents the challenge of ending up with a ring that is either to small or too large.

How to choose your wedding ring

While choosing the right engagement ring is fretted and mulled over for months, its life partner the wedding band can be something of an afterthought. But as a piece of jewellery you’ll wear for the rest of your life, it pays to spend a bit of time finding the perfect wedding ring.

The sheer volume of wedding rings out there is overwhelming so it’s worth narrowing your search by deciding on the basics.

Traditionally, the metal is dictated by the engagement ring – yellow gold is a timeless choice (9-karat is stronger than 18-karat gold and therefore more suitable for everyday wear), while white gold and platinum (the strongest, most durable metal) have become the most popular contemporary styles. Rose gold has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, as has mixing and matching metals.

“Whilst it is nice to have a wedding ring that complements the engagement ring, don’t worry if you choose a wedding ring that does not perfectly match your engagement ring,” says JDC director Mark. “They are two separate rings for two separate reasons and sometimes it is good to be able to see the distinction.”

It’s also important to consider how the wedding ring sits with your engagement ring. “I would always recommend choosing a wedding ring that is a similar width to the band of the engagement ring as you want it to be noticed but not to dominate,” says Mark.

If the engagement ring has a very large central stone then this may cause a gap between it and the ring, in which case it’s worth considering a shaped ring or one which interlocks with the stone. Adds Mark: “You also might want to think ahead (sorry chaps) and leave room for an eternity ring.”

From then on, it’s a matter of taste – plain or diamond-set, classic or contemporary, timeless or a little unusual? To help with the search, we round up some of the best wedding rings to suit all styles and budgets.

“Engraving the inside of a wedding ring with initials, the wedding date or a romantic inscription is a perfect way of adding to the symbolism of such an important piece of jewellery,” says Mark.

Vintage-style and coloured stone engagement rings are becoming more popular, and coloured gem wedding rings complement them wonderfully.

The allure of pink gold doesn’t seem to be waning and there’s been an explosion of rose gold engagement and wedding rings on the market in recent years.

For the bride whose tastes are left of centre, perusing rows upon rows of plain gold or predictable diamond eternity bands can be a thankless task. Luckily we have a designer  – who caters for unusual tastes.

Rings which interlock with the engagement ring, as opposed to being worn alongside it, are also gaining favour.

The meaning behind the Engagement Ring

Engagement rings have been around since the time of the Roman Empire. As we all know, it is a gift symbolizing love and the desire of a couple to spend the rest of their lives together. Depending on cultural background, the value of an engagement ring varies. Some cultures believe that you must give an expensive engagement ring. Other cultures believe the engagement ring should not be expensive at all.

Cultures differ in their views. It is not the value of the ring that matters, but the meaning and love behind it. If your way of showing affection is buying your loved one an expensive engagement ring, do it! If you rather want to buy a less expensive ring, because you would like to treat her in another way, do that. An engagement ring should symbolize your love for your partner and the desire that you have to spend your lives together.

Going through the internet and reading articles, I learned that most people still want engagement rings. They are not fixed on a massive diamond that costs an arm and a leg anymore, but they still want that ring; they still want that symbol of love.

The sentimental meaning behind the engagement ring is immense. It will always be one of your loved ones most cherished possessions. That is why we are so scared of it being taken. We will spend insane amounts of money on electronics etc. which we might need to replace in a year or two as they would have become outdated. When purchasing an engagement ring we should remember that it symbolizes an oath more than a material object — a gift that will not become outdated. The thought of love will remain, even if the ring gets stolen. The value of the ring is not in its monetary amount, but in something much deeper.

Love is the one thing that we all crave. No matter which culture, country, nationality or even which continent we are from, we want to be loved.

As a couple wanting to get married, nothing symbolizes this love more than the giving of an engagement ring. How much you want to spend is up to you, but take it from us: Your loved one wants a ring, even if he/she says differently. You just need to know what ring they want.

5 Reasons to Buy Jewellery

5 Reasons to Buy Her Jewellery

The business world can become a monster for many men, entrepreneurs and executives alike. Lots of people strive for the infamous and seemingly unattainable 4-hour work week, but they have trouble even staying within the “normal” 40 hours.

Excessive work weeks can damage relationships. Most hardworking men have good intentions—they want to be there but can’t always manage it. So what material thing can your partner turn to for a smile while you’re away? There are more than a few reasons why you may want to consider giving your significant other something memorable – a symbol of your love.

We all know that “things” and “stuff” can’t make up for lost time, but they can help bring some much-needed (and deserved!) joy. Small reminders that say “I love you, I miss you, or I am thinking of you” are so important for a strong, healthy relationship. From email love letters to surprise phone calls to grander gestures, there are plenty of ways to show you care no matter where you are.

When it’s time to go the extra mile, remember these five reasons why a gorgeous, unique piece of jewellery may just be the next best thing to you.

1) It’s a conversation starter. And that conversation starts with you.

When your significant wears a stunning piece of jewellery, people are bound to comment on it. When she receives a compliment, her response is likely to be: “Oh, thank you! My boyfriend (my husband, my significant other, David) got that for me!”

And then, three things happen—she thinks about you fondly, the person she’s talking to thinks of you fondly—and happiness spreads.

2) Love is an action verb.

You know this of course — love is more than a feeling, it is a verb, and an action verb at that. When you go searching for that perfect piece of jewellery, you remind her that you are a man of action, which in turn reminders her that she is loved. Actions speak louder than words. (And gold lasts longer than flowers!)

3) It will make her feel beautiful.

Perhaps, societal expectations are at play here. Although, we prefer to think women love a beautiful piece of jewellery because it is in itself, beautiful, and it becomes a reflection of her. And isn’t it fantastic to be able to help her feel her best?

4) She will know it is long lasting and valuable—-and that is the way you consider the relationship.

Money does not buy love, but the right jewels can say a lot. They require a bit of an investment, which mirrors the investment you put into your relationship on a daily basis. They’re also long-lasting and won’t wither or fade over time. They’re strong and everlasting. You may have to work long hours, but she can glance at her jewels to her remind her of you while you’re away. Give her a reason to think of you fondly, even when you’re not in the same room, town, state, or even country.

5) It will bring her joy.

A beautiful gift will automatically make her face light right up. It’s the combination of the beauty of the jewellery and the statement that you place a high value on your relationship. Knowing that you took the time to seek out a piece that fits her to a “T” will remind her that you’re thinking of her, and that your love is with her even when you can’t be there.
